Below is a summarized synopsis The undated recording titled Reviving Historic Yellow Springs provides a historical overview of the Yellow Springs village in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It describes the area's early use by the Lenni Lenape and Susquehannock peoples, followed by its development as a health resort during the 18th century. Between 1721 and 1750, physicians recommended the mineral springs for their healing properties. In 1774, Dr. Samuel Kennedy purchased the springs, and during the Revolutionary War, part of the property was used as a hospital authorized by the Continental Congress. After the war, the village resumed its function as a spa.Throughout the 19th century, Yellow Springs hosted prominent figures and entertainment. In 1861, the hospital reopened for Civil War use and later became an orphanage. Fires in 1876, 1899, and 1964 damaged key buildings. In 1916, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts established a summer school on the site. During the 1950s, it served as a film production location. The Yellow Springs Association was formed in 1965, and in 1971, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Historic Yellow Springs, Inc. purchased the site in 1974.
