This document is comprised of an excerpt from Wayne Bodle's book "The Valley Forge Winter: Civilians and Soldiers in War". The excerpt deals with the Continental Army's encampment at Valley Forge (and also the outpost at Wilmington, which Washington seized for defensive reasons) during the winter of 1777-1778 and focuses mainly on the supply situation of the American Army, the issue of looting and plunder that affected the civilian population, and the British patrolling policy that was set up to counter Washington's suppression of trade around the Philadelphia area. |
