RG1.B3.F37 - Photographs and etchings

This is a colored photographic reproduction of Capt. Holman of the Chester County Troop, PA. It is believed the Chester Co. Militia was only called out once to quell riots in Philadelphia. Capt. Samuel Holman was a son of Frederick and Margaret Holman who owned and managed the spa at Yellow Springs. The donor, Robert Holman is a descendant of another son Isaac.

This folder contains an excerpt of a M.A. dissertation from the University of Chicago. The piece traces the history of the formation of soldiers' institutions in Pennsylvania. This excerpt specifically covers the legislative process in the late nineteenth century that led to the formation of the Soldiers' Orphan Schools. Greg Bohm has a copy.
